If you are reading this page you've discovered one of the main
reasons this site came to life. There is something very basic in the very word
Community. It
probably derived from common, something that everybody shares or
agree upon. Community unites people who have similar believes, cultural and
national roots. In America this concept is also cherished through local clubs,
schools, religious institutions and simply "good neighbors".
We should realize that decision to immigrate to the States
also meant cutting off our old community ties. I know from my own experience
that it is a very painful process, sometimes leaving invisible scars to the rest
of our lives. I can clearly remember my wife blankly staring at the wall in our
Brooklyn apartment or quietly crying for hours "I want back, I don't understand
anything here, where are our movies, theaters books, concerts..." I am not sure
even after many years we completely became a part of American community. And
even if we have, our roots are still there and everybody is trying to somehow
maintain them, keep together, even if not for anything else than Russian New
Year parties.
I personally feel there is a little communication void and
informational vacuum existing in our community. No, we all have our circles,
friends and family. But very few people can say they know various aspects of our
community life. Do you know that we have prominent cultural leaders, bright
scientists and doctors, creative minds and crafty hands? Have you ever
wished you had somebody to turn to for a personal advice or just to share a hobby?
I have. But sometimes it is hard to find out "who is who" even in our relatively
small community.
I hope this page will help to fill the void. I invite
everybody to join in, introduce yourself and your family, share with us what you
think, who you are and what you like. If you can offer something, please do! Or
just speak out. Drop me an e-mail and I will post it here, so that people could
see who lives next door.

Design for me is not just a profession. It is a way of looking at the world,
the world we live in, the world of things. Things we see, touch, listen to,
and smell. Things we drive, and live in. Things we work, and play with, build
and destroy. I am a designer, one of many others, who make things, building
this world, creating a domain of interaction for all of us.

Looking back, it seems like it has been my fate to start teaching, trying to
avoid what I didn't like in my learning experience as a student, but to use
and develop all the best methods I learned from some of my teachers. I can not
make anybody an artist, teach being creative and original. I can only explain
basic rules of drawing, painting a composition, which have been discovered,
developed and systematized into Academic Method a long time ago. The rest is
completely up to every individual. Evelyn@april85.com www.april85.com
